Message from Mrs Matthews
It's been back to it with a super busy week at school, even with a 4-day week! We've had the last week of interventions for our Year 11s ready for their Pre-Public Examinations (PPEs) next week, our Year 8 Parents' Evening, the launch of our Year 10 Inspire Programme, rehearsals for our whole school production and a range of fixtures including hockey against Bishop Fox's for our Year 10 girls.
Thank you as always for your support. I know Mrs Westwood has written more about this in our letter to you, which will be sent out on Monday afternoon, particularly in relation to the implementation of the Yondr mobile phone pouches. It is such a joy to be and tangibly feel part of a team with you and our wider community as we help to educate and prepare our young people to successfully negotiate the world outside of school. I feel very lucky to work in such a fantastic and thriving community. Thank you for your part in that.
I hope you have a lovely weekend.
Best wishes, Mrs Matthews

Year 10 Ceramics Project
We had a brilliant time working with YR10 on this ceramics project. Inspired by ceramicist Jenny Sutton-Kirby, a local artist based in Taunton. We took a risk and explored smoke firing. This involved making and kiln firing the pots and then burnishing and covering them in organic matter and silver foil before burning them in an incinerator. We hope you agree they look fantastic and a great experience for the students on their GCSE journey.
Ofsted and CQC Area SEND inspection: Share your experience
Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) are carrying out an inspection of services and support for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) in Somerset.
As part of the inspection, inspectors want to hear directly from children and young people with SEND, parents and carers, and practitioners. They will use this feedback to help them understand people's experiences of SEND services and support across Somerset.
The relevant surveys can be found here:
Children and Young People Survey
Parent/Carer Survey (Easy Read)
The surveys are voluntary and responses will be treated confidentially by the inspection team.
The surveys will remain open from 2nd November until 9am on Tuesday 10 November 2026.
Please take this opportunity to share your experiences and views directly with inspectors.
More information
Ofsted and CQC have also published information explaining the Area SEND inspection and how children, young people, parents and carers can be involved. Information is available in a range of formats, including Easy Read and British Sign Language (BSL).
Area SEND inspections: information for families
Thank you for helping ensure that children, young people, families and practitioners across Somerset have the opportunity to share their experiences with inspectors.
Thank you very much for your support.
